The Impact You’ll Make in this RoleThe person hired for the position of Plant Engineering Manager will oversee all maintenance operations on site, as well as infrastructure management, capital investment, and leadership on disruptive technology. The team is responsible for mechanical, systems/electrical and equipment reliability improvement. They will drive long term improvements operations across the site, utilizing Lean/Six Sigma continuous improvement processes. Directing resources to support immediate, short term, & long term site needs in the support of overall equipment uptime. Responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, compliance, quality, technical skill development, and equipment reliability. They will manage the overall guidance of disruptive technology implementation for the site. Will lead infrastructure investment and manage overall capital investment for the site. This person will be a member of the Plant Operating Committee and will work closely with each member of the leadership team to help drive continuous improvement, reduce cycle time, improve customer service, and meet business needs.

  • Ensure the safe and compliant operation of the Stafford Springs Site
  • Develops and implements strategic and operational plans for Plant Engineering, EHS, and Disruptive Technology to support overall business needs
  • Develops and maintains the technical competency for the Team and provides leadership, coaching and direction to direct reports
  • Leads the site plant engineering and is responsible for staffing, budget attainment, workload forecasting, and succession planning. Maintains controls to assure department expenses stay within budgets
  • Manages overall capital investment for the site.  Develops infrastructure renewal plans.  Provides leadership on overall investment to support production improvements, cost reduction, and capacity to support customer service
  • Manages risk and protects the company’s employees, assets, and intellectual property. Ensures compliance to environmental, health, safety, regulatory, and intellectual property.  Provides direction for effective and consistent use of design standards and guidelines. Actively participates in corporate programs/initiatives, complies with professional and quality standards, complies with corporate policies and procedures, and acts in a manner consistent with 3M’s values, practices, and ethical standards
  • Evaluate equipment and maintenance history to determine and establish appropriate preventive maintenance requirements, and/or to recommend predictive Maintenance programs for optimizing effectiveness of maintenance procedures and maximizing equipment reliability
  • Ensure maintenance Conscious Engineering (MCE) considerations are raised during project team meetings as maintenance representative.  Actively support MOC and PSSR process to ensure the safe and effective implementation of changes
  • Utilizing resources to identify, analyze and address improvement opportunities
  • Provide leadership for Stafford Springs Business Transformation efforts
  • Drive Lean implementation in plant engineering to support up time improvements and overall customer service

Your Skills and Expertise  To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Five (5) years in a manufacturing environment in a private, public, government or military environment
  • Three (3) years in a manufacturing or plant engineering leadership role in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial)
  • Previous experience as a manufacturing or plant engineering leader
  • Previous experience at multiple manufacturing sites
  • Proven track record of managing a manufacturing, technical, or plant engineering organization to achieve operational objectives on EHS, Quality, Service & Inventory and Factory Cost
  • LSS Black Belt certification
  • High level of mechanical & technical aptitude
  • Experience in technical development and training of employees
  • Project leadership experience
  • Ability to work well with cross-functional peer team and provide leadership for a diverse organization

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic
