QA Engineer - Web (12 months FTC)

About the role

You'll be working within the Web team at the heart of ASOS Technology. Our goal is to create the ultimate customer experience through inspiration, engagement and excitement in the fashion industry. We achieve our goals using cutting edge technologies at scale to always be ahead of our customers’ expectations.

We work closely with Product Owners, our Analytics and UXUI teams to build the ultimate experience for our fashion conscious 20-somethings.

We're looking for highly engaged and passionate engineers to join our Web team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to apply and enhance their skills in a fast paced and dynamic environment, where no two days are ever the same.

What you’ll do

  • Use your testing experience and curiosity to prevent bugs as well as find them.
  • Reuse and create heuristics, models and personas to help you test effectively in personal, paired and mob sessions.
  • Build an understanding of not just what the application does, but how it works through exploration: the code it’s built from, its design, its architecture and the wider domain.
  • Be our customer’s eyes and ears in the team, helping us to nudge and steer as required.
  • Understand and challenge the ‘why’ by collaborating with Product Owners, UXUI, Developers and other Business Stakeholders to understand if we’re building the right thing the right way.
  • Test for all sorts of different risks, paying particular attention to accessibility, client-side performance and security, using tools such as AXE, Wave, SpeedCurve, Lighthouse, JMeter and Taurus.
  • Use JavaScript and a myriad of libraries such as Jest, Puppeteer, WebdriverIO and Cypress to help you along the way.
  • Test efficiently by taking advantage of our Micro Services and Micro Frontend Architecture.
  • Curate test data and utilise test environments.
  • Use tools such as GIT, Postman, GetSandbox, Saucelabs and Applitools as well as the various development tooling built into browsers.
  • Be part of an Agile team that uses Kanban and delivers continuously.
  • Play a key role in helping the team decide if it’s time to ship.
  • Test in production environment safely by using tools such as feature flags, staging slots or experimentation with A/B and MVT.
  • Monitor and maintain our applications by analysing information from sources such as Adobe Analytics and NewRelic.
  • Share your experiences, knowledge and expertise with other teams across ASOS Tech.
  • Improve your team’s testing strategy, understanding that it’s not something to follow without question.
  • Understand that everyone is responsible for quality and help your team contribute to that goal.
