Network Software Engineer - Magic Transit

Cloudflare is redefining the way network functions are deployed at scale. Magic Transit puts the connectivity, scale, and performance of Cloudflare’s global network in front of customers’ network infrastructure, providing a single pane of glass for deploying and managing network functions like DoS mitigation, Magic Firewall, IDS/IPS, WAN optimization, and more. We are a team of engineers and product managers who obsess over quickly building products that solve real customer problems using innovative technologies and techniques which leverage Cloudflare’s unique architecture and global network footprint.

About the role

As a software engineer on the Magic Transit team, you will use your deep knowledge of Linux networking internals to design and implement distributed network functions, such as firewalls, NATs, load balancers, and QoS. You will build software systems to provide control and visibility, from user-facing APIs to distributed control systems that deploy network functions across thousands of servers. You will build internal monitoring, alerting, and management tooling to enable our operations and customer support teams to keep our global systems running at peak performance for our customers.

Desirable skills, knowledge, and experience

  • Expertise with Linux networking internals
  • Experience building firewalls, NATs, load balancers, QoS, etc.
  • Understanding of IP-layer networking, including BGP and routing protocols
  • Systems-level programming experience, especially in Go or Rust
  • Strong ability to debug issues in complex systems
  • Excited by quickly delivering results that make a meaningful difference to customers
  • Motivated to own solutions end-to-end, driving all stages of the design, development, and deployment process
  • Creative, open-minded, collaborative problem solver
  • Focus on clarity in written and verbal communication
