Job Description

Technical Sales Engineer

Position Summary: Support the Regional sales team(s) with a high level of presales support consisting of but not limited to sales presentations, site surveys, systems design and take offs. Provide a low-touch escalation path for post-sales support by properly leveraging Pelco’s post-sales support functions.

Essential Functions:

  • Works closely with the Regional Sales Director to determine highest priority weekly tasks. Support Sales Agents (including inside sales team) efforts in the field with a high level of presales support
  • Maintain a working relationship with Tier 1 Pelco resellers
  • Keep all Sales Agents and Regional Sales Directors informed of all identified opportunities as required
  • Maintain a log of all pending opportunities through close contact with influential decision maker, updating Major Sales Opportunities as required
  • Participate in sales team calls, as scheduled by the Regional Sales Director
  • Maintain a working knowledge of competitive offerings and a technical SWOT document on the latest competitive video products as well as be the technical authority on all Pelco products in Establish and maintain a working relationship with key product owners within Pelco to exchange information on the region
  • Establish and maintain a working relationship with key product owners within Pelco to exchange information on new product needs, competitive threats, and new release updates
  • Assist the Region by participating in Road Shows, Trade Shows, CRT visits, Promotions and Marketing programs, as agreed to with the Regional Sales Director
  • Uphold Pelco’s commitment to excellence standards at all times
  • Conduct technical presentations and product demonstrations
  • Work closely with all other members of the Regional sales team and other Pelco technical experts, including cross-regional counterparts
  • Identify current and future customer service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and existing customers as well as other persons in a position to understand service requirements
  • Provide product, service, or equipment technical and engineering information by answering questions and requests
  • Prepare BOM cost estimates by studying blueprints, plans, and related customer documents; consulting with engineers, architects, and other professional and technical personnel
  • Work to achieve targets as assigned by TSE Manager and Regional Sales Directors
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


  • Knowledge of the video security industry, Pelco product line, Pelco pricing and channel strategy, and security product integration
  • Knowledge of the contracting and bidding process
  • Ability to properly specify Pelco products and maintain appropriate interfaces with resellers, end users and the sales agents
  • Ability to prepare video security product proposals and out specify competition
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and in written form
  • Ability to demonstrate products, as needed
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, company management, and fellow employees
  • Ability to travel approximately 50% of the time
  • Ability to work in a drug-free environment and pass a pre-employment drug screen

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical area
  • Minimum 3 years experience working as a sales engineer
  • Cisco CCENT / CCNA Certifications desired
