Our Global Availability Team are looking to recruit a Site Reliability Engineer. Their primary role is to ensure maximum availability of our services for our travellers and partners. This role offers a highly diverse range of duties and technical challenges where you'll have the opportunity to work on large scale, complex problems where you can reach 100 million monthly unique users whilst enjoying a high level of autonomy and influence.

Skyscanner operates in a Tribes and Squads model and we have created an engineering culture where there is a high level of trust, autonomy and transparency. Our engineers work in autonomous teams (squads), they create their own backlog, they ship code whenever they want and don’t have dependencies in order to deliver to their users. Our engines use globally scaled services, big data and machine learning to capture, normalise and make sense of real time information from our thousands of partners.

What you’ll do:

  • Monitoring the status and traveller experience on the website, handling incidents and ensuring rapid restoration of service on behalf of the traveller.
  • Collaborate with other squads learning and sharing your deep understanding of your services and domain knowledge while advocating improvements across both business and technical stacks.
  • Help maintain a suit of enablement services used by other engineers across Skyscanner.

We are looking for a blend of the following:

  • Continual self improvement combined with a passion for learning new technologies and adapting to a changing technological ecosystem
  • Experience providing support in the Internet Economy industry and/or with large scale cloud based distributed systems
  • Involvement in supporting or running Major Incident's
  • Drive behaviours and practices around structured trouble-shooting methodologies with the clear imperative to restore service as a priority 
  • Experience of using monitoring systems and alerting tools  – e.g. mPulse, Monitis, Victor Ops, Pager Duty etc.
  • Able to assist in our 24/7 on-call operations

Key Skills, Qualifications & Education: 

  • Experience supporting or developing cloud-native systems and services at scale, including open-source and commercial third-party solutions.
  • University level education in Computing / Info Security or equivalent experience. 
  • Articulate, with excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English. 
  • Experience working with Incident, Problem, Change and Service Request ticketing systems. 
  • Strong relationship building and inter-personal skills. 
  • Experience working with scripting technologies
