Senior Software Development Engineer - Property Data Catalog Team

About the team

The Property Data Catalog Team is building a technology platform to deliver detailed, high quality, canonical data about properties to all of Zillow Group and Zillow Group customers. This data is the life blood of all things Zillow. Our customers depend on Zillow data to make some of their most important financial decisions. We believe our ZG customers deserve access to the most trusted, up-to-date, unique property data available. This gives them the confidence to make an informed decision for the next chapter of their lives. You will join a team tackling the consumption and delivery of both stream and bulk property data from multiple sources.

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the PDC team, you will architect and build mission-critical data pipelines and platforms to deliver up to date information to the entire Zillow infrastructure. You will work within a small team of software developers to independently design features in mission-critical live services. We believe in autonomy and fast-moving product development, so self-motivation and high energy are must-haves for this role.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.

Who you are

  • A data expert and a hands-on coder with at least 6 years of professional experience.

  • Fluent in Java or similar language

  • Experience building and maintaining highly complex data pipelines and making them highly scalable and reliable

  • Experience with data handling frameworks, databases, and data storage solutions, such as, Flink, Dynamo, Kinesis, Kafka, Scylladb, Avro, Redis Cache

  • Familiarity with a Cloud platform (e.g. AWS) and with Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g. Terraform)

  • Understanding of the concepts behind distributed databases, and both streaming and batch processing systems

  • Ability to handle ambiguity and learn quickly

  • Excellent communication skills

  • A degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline; or equivalent work experience

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with 

    • Other AWS technologies (e.g. RDS, SNS, SQS, Elastic Beanstalk, and Lambda) 

    • Monitoring technologies (e.g. Splunk, DataDog)

  • Data Architecture & Governance

In additional to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.
