As the usage for real time services and insights grow at Zillow, so do the challenges with complex distributed systems such as Kafka and Flink. You will get to work on scaling the infrastructure to support those needs. Those challenges include fair multi-tenancy usage, growing from single to multi cluster management, modernizing deployments with Terraform and Kubernetes, growing to multi-regions, implementing non-trivial auto scaling mechanisms and more.
In addition, you will implement various developer tools as a way to reduce the overhead of engineers across the company by using these complex big data technologies. That includes tools for them to observe their workloads, abstracting libraries and advocating best practices.This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.
Demonstrated ability to own systems and improving their reliability
Demonstrated ability to employ SRE practices such as Infrastructure as code, SLIs/SLOs & observability
Experienced working with Kubernetes
Proficient coding in Python/Java or other languages
Familiar with distributed systems and their challenges
(Plus) Familiar with streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka or Apache Flink
(Plus) Experience developing for Kubernetes Operators
Biased for action and proactive figuring things out
A degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline; or equivalent work experience
